THE MIGRATORY CONSTRUCT

In the current scanario of rapidly transforming built environments, the urban landcape is undergoing change due to migration of communities from rural settlements. Some of the migrants work in the city as construction workers and have a hand in the transformation of the urban environment. Our research begins in some of Delhi's large construction sites, where we focus on the settlements provided to the migrant workers, mapping out the built, interacting with the people and engaging with their issues.

This bit of research led us to the villages in Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh, from where a community of workers migrate to cities to work on various sites, including the ones we studied. In the village our aim was to delve into the lives of the migrant workers, explore their homes in the village, understanding the built, as well as socio-cultural aspects.
