SPACES IN TRANSITION

After coming from our first semester learning from the village study and the project, the exhibition in the second semester focused on our study of the present living condition of the construction workers on various construction worker settlements in Delhi and most importantly exhibited the design projects done by the students. The design projects so displayed showed how students came up with their innovative construction systems and settlement clusters; their own solutions to provide a comfortable and efficient way of living for the construction workers in different types of sites setup in different contexts.

Our study of the construction worker camps in Delhi and Gwalior quite interestingly depicted how different the sites were in terms of typology, density and the provision of basic services. A variation across the various sites in Delhi and Gwalior helped us realize what problems the construction workers face in these settlements. The study played a crucial role in the design projects.
