TIKAMGARH TEHSIL
Our studio aims at mapping the parallel lives of such migration workers. The village setting, their vernacular architecture, lifestyle, sense of living, community and culture. Here is where we investigate the reasons that facilitate migration to cities. Analysing the various aspects that affect them and drawing relations with the migration story.
The city, the transition from home to camps, hope for better living and the adjustment to a new setting, the part 2 of the migration story focuses on the changes in living and usage of space. Architecture wise there is a gravitation towards the kind of transient living that is created due to migration.
Mohangarh
मोहनगढ़
The village has been named after Raja Man Singh, who also built the Mohangarh Fort. The settlement is about 500 years old.
The people living in this village are mainly Jains and Muslims, having very strong distinctions which can be clearly seen in the segregation of the linear street done by placing a Mosque just at the edge of where the last Jain House ends.
The entire village is built along contours with the Mohangarh Fort at the highest level and the lake at the lowest with the main settlement.
The village is almost like a small town by itself offering a junior school, various worship places of different religions, a hospital and a weekly market.
Above is a plan showing the land use pattern in the village. From this plan we can see that the village is mostly residential with commercial spaces spread throughout the village.
